Our Story

OUR STORY
Like millions of other families, our family gathers from points across America every summer for a vacation at the beach. In our case, that beach is Avalon, New Jersey. During one recent holiday, our 70-something mom lamented that she could not join her adult children in some of the popular beach games we play, the ones that require physical exertion and athleticism. On a whim, I said, “I’m going to invent an outdoor game we can all play together!” To which everyone rolled their eyes. I didn’t mind; I had said it tongue-in-cheek.
But when we got back home to Montana, my brother and I started kicking around ideas. We love “tossing games” like horseshoes and cornhole, so that was our starting point. But what to toss? The more we searched outdoor games, we began to realize that a very popular type of game always left a lot to be desired. And that’s the age-old game of ring toss.
Turns out, every ring toss game we found had the same problem. Whether the targets are sticks, pegs, hooks, bottles, pins, or even fake antlers, the rings are always too small! This makes it hard to score for even the most athletic players, and just frustrating for everyone else. So we got to work.
At the next summer vacation, I plopped my handmade prototype (version 5) down on the beach and, after explaining the rules, we all started playing. And we just didn’t stop. It was a smashing success! Even passersby who joined in asked where they could get the game. They seemed genuinely upset when we told them it was a one-off, and many suggested we turn it into an actual product. That was never the plan, but after a family conversation we started to talk to manufacturers and, yada yada yada, Ringaard was born!
We chose solid New Zealand pine wood and natural sisal rope for the components because we wanted to make a quality product that feels great to play and will last for years.
So from our family to yours, we hope you enjoy Ringaard…the Ultimate Ring Toss Game!
